The sixth annual AEW Full Gear pay-per-view takes place Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and the lineup is stacked with grudge matches and title bouts.
All Elite Wrestling usually adds a few matches to the Zero Hour pre-show and main card the week of the event, but as of Wednesday morning, nine matches are set to take place.
As always, our panel of contributors is here to offer predictions.
The Lineup
- Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy (AEW World Heavyweight Championship)
- Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
- Jack Perry vs. Daniel Garcia (TNT Championship)
- Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley
- Mercedes Moné vs. Kris Statlander (TBS Championship)
- Private Party vs. The Outrunners vs. House of Black vs. The Acclaimed (AEW Tag Team Championships)
- Jay White vs. "Hangman" Adam Page
- MJF vs. Roderick Strong
- "Big Boom!" AJ vs. QT Marshall
Here is a look at the card as it stands:
Erik Beaston
Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley
Forget about logic. Who do you personally want to see win this match and why?
Swerve. He is one of the faces of AEW and a guy the future of the promotion should be built around. He has lost more big matches than he has won of late, and it feels like he needs a win to rebuild some of the momentum he had through the first half of the year.
Mercedes Moné vs. Kris Statlander
Do you think the tension between Kamille and Mercedes will cost her the title?
Not yet. It's coming, with Kamille possibly dethroning Mercedes, but it feels too soon to take the title off of Moné, especially outside of a red-hot program that can benefit the new champion.
Kevin Berge
Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy
How do you think this match will end? Will there be interference, and if so, who?
This will certainly have a messy finish. While The Death Riders will get involved, it's likely Cassidy will get help from the rest of the AEW roster, especially Darby Allin, Daniel Garcia and Private Party. That will set up a home stretch where it is just down to who hits the biggest move, and Mox will need the Super Death Rider to finish the job.
Jay White vs. "Hangman" Adam Page
Which results makes the most sense based on how this feud has been booked and why?
Switchblade has stated time and again how many times he has beaten Hangman. If he wins again, this rivalry is unlikely to continue, so Page needs to pick up the win. This can set up a deciding match at Worlds End, perhaps a Texas Deathmatch to decide who is truly the better man in AEW.
Graham Matthews
Jack Perry vs. Daniel Garcia
Do you think the TNT title should change hands?
It's high time AEW pulls the trigger on Garcia. He has been long overdue for a singles title run, and if there was any time for him to win one, it would be now. Perry's reign has been solid albeit unspectacular, and in order for Garcia to make the next step toward stardom, he needs to walk away with the gold on this show.
"Big Boom!" AJ (Costco Guy) vs. QT Marshall
Does this match belong on a PPV?
To his credit, the Costco Guy has hyped up this match on plenty of platforms in the weeks preceding the PPV. How many eyes that will get on the Full Gear pre-show remains to be seen, but AEW is attempting to capitalize on whatever buzz he and the rest of his Costco crew have left. This could have happened on Dynamite (if at all), but hopefully it'll be quick and painless.
Donald Wood
Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
If you were in charge, how would you lay this match out? Would anyone else be involved?
Fletcher is one of the more underrated in-ring performers in AEW, and his personality is starting to show through on television. With that said, Ospreay needs the victory and is the bigger star, so expect The Aerial Assassin to put on a spectacular, show-stealing bout with his friend before earning the win.
MJF vs. Roderick Strong
Why do you think AEW decided to have Adam Cole lose this third qualifier match instead of making this a Triple Threat?
Adversity is one of the best ways to make fans sympathize with a face, so positioning Cole as the good guy would be best for his character right now. MJF and Cole will eventually have another match, but it deserves a proper build and storyline. For Cole, one step back should mean two steps forward following Full Gear.
Chris Mueller
Private Party vs. The Outrunners vs. House of Black vs. The Acclaimed
If the titles were going to change hands, who should win?
It's way too soon for Private Party to drop the belts after a five-year chase, but if it had to happen for some reason, AEW would be wise to capitalize on The Outrunners' popularity.
They are selling more merch than most of the AEW roster, and they always get big reactions. The crowd loves their throwback style, so if anybody would be a good choice, it would be them.
Jon Moxley vs. Orange Cassidy
What do you think of Cassidy as the de facto leader of AEW?
It took me some time to get on board with the idea, but it makes sense. OC is an AEW original and might be the most polar opposite character to Moxley on the entire roster. It's unlikely he will win the title this weekend, but he will probably be the one to take the belt from Mox eventually.
